Writer's Goshti 4th Dec 2010

Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi today organized a Writer's Goshti at the CSA mini-Auditorium in the State Library, Sector 34. Attending the event were more than fifty creative writers of the city, some veterans and a few novices. Fifteen poets read from their works in Hindi and Punjabi. Among the senior writers Shri Balbir Singh Tanha and Vijay Kapoor were greatly appreciated. The enthusiasm of senior citizen, Dr Tejpal Singh Chawla, was contagious and percolated to the audience which received his shayari warmly.

New writers included some young voices who made their debut at the Goshti. Gurpreet Anandi and Geetanjali Bhagat, newcomers in the field, were highly appreciated. The event was skilfully compered by two young Urdu aficionados, Jatinder and Sumeet.

Today's event also saw the book launch of Dr Pankaj Malviya's translation of Anton Chekov's tales into Hindi. Prof Mehndiratta, who presided over the event, graphically described the painstaking effort that went into the translation when Dr Malviya, over the last seven years, would discuss his work at every stage with the senior writer-critic.

In an effort to give a platform to more and more aspiring writers of the city, the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi proposes to make Poetry sessions a regular feature. The next such session will be held on 8th January, at 4 pm, at the 34 Sector Library.
